A Passenger or a Captain?
You are the MASTER of your destiny. You can influence, direct and CONTROL your own environment. You can make your life what you want it to be.” Think and Grow Rich
Do you believe in this quote from Napoleon Hill? Do you think it is possible to live life on your own terms? Do you think there is a chance that you might arrive at your intended destination?
In 2013, I left my job at the federal government. I had started the position loving it but after a few years, I knew I needed to move on as that position wasn't supporting my growth anymore. I had other opportunities to work with the public sector but I didn’t do it. The universe had other plans for me and I decided to do something completely different and get a CPA designation.
Two years in the program, after passing the National Exam, my circumstances changed again and this time, I came to California. I think the universe intervened again to save me from a career I had no passion for.
I was scared and very unclear about my future. I was scared as I knew there was a chance that things wouldn't go as planned again.
But one thing was clear and true for me. I knew the clock was ticking and I had to start taking control and steering my own ship. I knew I didn't want the cubicle life style anymore. I knew I no longer wanted to work for someone else and I didn't want someone else decide my agenda for me.
I no longer wanted to be a PASSENGER but a CAPTAIN In my life.
But I was scared and unsure of the decision I had to make and I had no plans.
Things changed when I decided to say YES to my passion and my desire to help and work with people.
This time, I knew there wouldn't be anyone else shaping my agenda but me; no mission or mandate to follow other than my own and no one else reporting to but to myself. It was liberating but scary. I took action scared but I did take the first step.
I know there will always be risk involved as the waves might temporarily change the course of my ship and make the journey longer and harder. But I know I can regain control and steer the ship in the right direction. I know the road is long and lonely at times but my eyes are fixed on the destination and that is all I can see. I know I have to work hard but I am hopeful.
Are you the Captain or the passenger? Are you taking control and doing what you love to do?
Let's think about this lesson. Let's find the examples from our life, so this lesson can be learned and understood.
